WA Regional Economic Development (RED) Grants

Regional Economic Development Grants fund projects that drive economic growth in regional Western Australia.

Key Requirements

The RED Grants program, a State Government initiative, invests in locally driven projects to encourage the development of long-term economic growth and job sustainability in our regions.

Over ten years, the State Government is committing $55.85 million to the RED Grants program for projects directly benefiting regional communities.

Applicants must show that projects will achieve at least one of the following economic growth and development objectives:
  • creating sustainable jobs
  • expanding or diversifying industry
  • developing skills or capabilities
  • attracting new investment to the region
  • increasing productivity.
Over $36 million has been allocated to 355 approved projects across nine regions through previous rounds of the RED Grants Program. These initiatives include industry development and expansion, Aboriginal industry development, agricultural diversification, and tourism expansion.

Each of the nine Regional Development Commissions (RDCs) oversees the grant round process for their respective region and offers guidance to applicants throughout the application process.

What is eligible for funding?

Eligible applicants may seek funding for individual projects that contribute to job creation or sustainability, industry expansion or diversification, skill or capability development, business productivity enhancement, and attracting new investment to the regions.

What companies are eligible for funding?

To qualify, you must:

  • hold an Australian Business Number (ABN)
  • be a legal entity able to enter into a legally binding financial assistance agreement with the WA government
  • demonstrate the ability to undertake and complete the project
  • ensure capability to cover ongoing operating and maintenance costs after the grant period (if applicable)
  • provide a minimum 50% cash contribution to the project.

Is this grant competitive or entitlement based?

Competitive. Your application will be assessed among other applications by a judging panel.

How can I increase my chances of winning this grant?

  • Stakeholder relations and Risk Mitigation Plans
  • Any other relevant forecasting that will support your application
