Advance Queensland Ignite Ideas Fund
- EOI applications for Round 12 are open until 8 April 2024.
- Two funding tiers are available:
- Tier 1 offers funding of up to $100,000 for projects with a duration of no more than 12 months.
- Tier 2 extends funding ranging from over $100,000 to $200,000 for projects that can span up to 24 months.
The Ignite Ideas Fund offers funding for commercialising highly innovative products or services, at or beyond the minimum viable product stage.
This fund serves as a companion program to the Advance Queensland Ignite Spark Program, which supports projects in advancing highly innovative products or services from prototype development through testing and validation to market readiness.
Key Requirements
The Ignite Ideas Fund It supports Queensland-based enterprises with significant growth potential, aiming to:
- strengthen key industries
- diversify the Queensland economy
- compete in domestic and global markets
- engage and benefit regional Queensland
- generate new jobs now and in the future.
Funding is offered in two tiers:
- Tier 1: Up to $100,000 (excluding GST) for projects lasting up to 12 months.
- Tier 2: Over $100,000 and up to $200,000 (excluding GST) for projects lasting up to 24 months.
Successful applicants will also qualify for further business development support via the Ignite+ program. This initiative covers various areas including sales and marketing strategies, customer acquisition techniques, scalability measures, competitor analysis, intellectual property and legal support, financial structuring advice, mentorship connections, and networking opportunities with businesses and investors.
The program operates on a two-stage application process:
- an initial Expression of Interest (EOI) stage followed by a Full Application stage for shortlisted EOI candidates.
- Written notifications regarding the EOI outcomes will be sent to the email addresses provided in the application forms for all applicants.
What is eligible for funding?
Expenditure under the Ignite Ideas Fund should be directly tied to project-specific commercialisation activities and fall into these eligible cost categories:
- salary expenses, including on-costs, for new employees contributing to project delivery
- salary expenses, including on-costs, for founders and existing employees involved in project delivery (up to 20% of the total grant)
- services rendered by external parties not affiliated with the applicant
- equipment, not exceeding $10,000 per item (up to 10% of the total grant)
- consumables
- travel, accommodation, and subsistence costs.
All Ignite Ideas funding should ideally be spent within Queensland, unless it’s crucial for project success to incur expenses outside the state. The department will assess project costs for appropriateness and reasonableness.
What companies are eligible for funding?
To qualify for Ignite Ideas funding, the applicant organisation must, at the time of application and throughout the project duration:
- operate as a Queensland-based business
- employ no more than 50 full-time equivalent employees
- not be a subsidiary of a group with over 50 full-time equivalent employees in total
- be GST-registered (by Full Application submission)
- not have received government funding for the proposed project activity.
For Tier 1 applications, the applicant organisation and/or related parties must:
- not have previously received Ignite Ideas funding
- contribute cash amounting to at least 20% of the Ignite Ideas funding sought.
For Tier 2 applications, the applicant organisation and/or related parties must:
- not have received an Ignite Ideas Fund Tier 2 grant before
- not be applying for a product or service previously funded by Ignite Ideas
- have successfully completed any Tier 1-funded projects (if applicable)
- contribute cash equal to the amount of Ignite Ideas funding sought.
Organisations and their related entities are restricted to one application per funding round.
Is this grant competitive or entitlement-based?
Competitive. Your application will be assessed among other applications by a judging panel.

- CAPEX (Capital Expenditure) cost-benefit analysis
- Stakeholder relations and Risk Mitigation Plans
- Any other relevant forecasting that will support your application
