Community Action Grants support practical, community-led projects that respond to local needs and opportunities, helping Tasmanian communities become more connected, resilient and thriving.

The grants are intended for focused, small to medium-scale projects that are reasonably ready to deliver. Projects may include local activities, community programs, volunteer-led initiatives, equipment purchases or small-scale improvements to community spaces. What matters most is the benefit the project will create for the community.

Larger, longer-term or highly collaborative projects may be better suited to Major Initiative Grants, while projects primarily focused on organisational, leadership or sector capability may be better suited to Capability Building Grants.

Key Requirements

Applicant requirements

  • Must be based in Tasmania or delivering a project that primarily benefits Tasmanian communities
  • Must have met all obligations for any previous TCF grants
  • Unincorporated groups must apply through an auspice organisation that takes legal and financial responsibility, and the auspice organisation should have a genuine connection to the project rather than acting solely as an administrative sponsor
  • Organisations with an existing TCF-funded project may apply, provided the new application is for a distinct project and does not seek costs already funded

Project requirements

  • Projects must be reasonably ready to deliver
  • Projects must be delivered primarily in Tasmania
  • Projects should contribute to one or more of the 2026-27 funding priorities, though they do not need to address all three
  • Applicants must demonstrate how they know the project is needed or wanted and how the community helped shape the idea
  • Projects cannot commence until a funding agreement is signed

2026-27 funding priorities

  • Participation, belonging and connection
  • Community leadership, volunteering and skills
  • Local collaboration and community-led action

Council-specific requirements

  • Councils may apply for eligible community projects but cannot apply for infrastructure funding
  • Routine council services or normal council responsibilities will not be funded
  • Council-led projects should demonstrate meaningful community involvement in development and delivery

Infrastructure requirements

  • Community must have reasonable ongoing access to and benefit from any funded facility
  • Evidence of tenure or use arrangements and written owner permission may be required where the applicant does not own the property
  • Applicants are responsible for obtaining planning, building and regulatory approvals
  • Applications must make clear who will own and maintain the funded asset after completion

What is eligible for funding?

TCF can fund reasonable costs needed to deliver an eligible project, including:

  • Project staff
  • Facilitators, trainers and specialist services
  • Materials and equipment
  • Venue hire and transport
  • Accessibility and participation costs
  • Volunteer expenses
  • Community engagement
  • Small-scale community infrastructure
  • Administration and overhead costs

What companies are eligible for funding?

Eligible applicants are incorporated not-for-profit organisations, not-for-profit companies registered under company law, Tasmanian Local Government authorities subject to restrictions, and unincorporated organisations auspiced by an incorporated organisation.

Competitive. Your application will be assessed among other applications by a judging panel.
