The Tasmanian Active Infrastructure Grants Program aims to increase participation in sport and active recreation by funding infrastructure upgrades that improve access, capacity and inclusion across Tasmania.
The program targets facilities that support greater community use, particularly multi-use and shared facilities, and prioritises projects that create safe and welcoming environments for groups who currently participate less, including women and girls and communities experiencing socio-economic disadvantage.
The program is administered by Building Tasmania on behalf of the Crown in Right of Tasmania. Funding is limited and not all eligible applications will be successful.
Key Requirements
Co-contribution requirements
- No co-contribution is required for Tier 1 projects, or for Tier 1 and Tier 2 projects located on a government school site
- All other projects must contribute at least 20 per cent of total project cost, with at least 10 per cent in cash
- The remaining co-contribution may be cash, eligible in-kind contributions, or a combination
- Other Tasmanian Government grant funding cannot count towards the 20 per cent co-contribution
- Higher co-contributions strengthen the competitiveness of an application
In-kind contribution requirements
- In-kind labour must be provided by a professional such as a qualified tradesperson or business
- Written confirmation on signed letterhead stating the value of in-kind labour or supplies is required
- Unskilled work by club members such as delivery of goods, painting, removing existing infrastructure, waste disposal and project management is not accepted as in-kind
Compliance and project requirements
- Applicants must comply with the Child and Youth Safe Organisations Framework
- All reporting obligations for previous Active Tasmania grants must be complete by the closing date
- Applicants are responsible for obtaining all approvals and permits before construction, including development, building and plumbing permits
- Projects must meet relevant design standards and safety and compliance requirements
- Projects must not have commenced before the closing date
Synthetic surface requirements
- Projects involving installation or replacement of synthetic surfaces must demonstrate planning or allocated funds for future surface replacement
- Projects without a significant co-contribution towards replacing existing synthetic surfaces are considered low priority and unlikely to receive funding
Multi-club projects
- Only projects expected to benefit more than one sport or sporting club must provide letters of support from those organisations
- For all other projects, letters of support will not be considered during assessment
Complete eligibility conditions, priority areas and assessment weightings are set out in the program guidelines.
