Three grant types are available:
- Medium grants: less than $25,000, GST inclusive
- Large grants: $25,001 to $100,000, GST inclusive
- Multi-property grants: less than $200,000, GST inclusive
Funding may support one-off activities or activities delivered over multiple years. Projects may relate to an individual Heritage Agreement or multiple nearby Heritage Agreement properties with shared land management issues.

The Heritage Agreement Grants Program supports landholders to conserve and improve biodiversity on South Australian properties protected by Native Vegetation Heritage Agreements. Funding helps owners undertake practical land management activities that protect native vegetation, improve wildlife habitat and address threats to the ecological condition of Heritage Agreement areas.
The program particularly encourages collaboration between neighbouring landholders. Multi-property projects can deliver landscape-scale biodiversity improvements where nearby Heritage Agreements share similar management issues and activities can be delivered more efficiently through coordinated planning and contractors.
Key Requirements
Applicants must own land covered by a Heritage Agreement or be authorised to work on behalf of one or more Heritage Agreement owners. A contractor or other representative applying on an owner’s behalf must provide a letter of consent from every participating property owner, authorising the applicant to manage the grant and its finances.
Proposed activities must manage or improve biodiversity within the relevant Heritage Agreement. The same activities must not already be funded through another source or required under another arrangement, such as an environmental offset or carbon credit project.
Applicants must be able to complete the funded activities within the program timeframe, obtain all necessary permits and approvals, and have no outstanding grant conditions or acquittals with the Department for Environment and Water. Applicants may only receive one grant per Heritage Agreement property through the 2026–2030 program.
Before submitting a formal application, applicants should lodge an Expression of Interest. A Native Vegetation Branch or Landscape Board officer will then discuss the site and proposed activities and assist with defining the project scope.
What is eligible for funding?
Funding can support practical activities that manage or improve biodiversity within a Heritage Agreement, including pest plant and animal control, management of overabundant native species, fencing to exclude stock or other threats, and revegetation using locally native species.
Minor assets and equipment costing less than $2,000 may also be funded, including spray packs, fencing tools and monitoring cameras. Other activities may be considered where they can reasonably be expected to improve the biodiversity of the Heritage Agreement area.
What companies are eligible for funding?
Eligible applicants include people who own South Australian land protected by a Heritage Agreement and authorised representatives, such as contractors, working on behalf of one or more Heritage Agreement owners.
Multi-property applications are encouraged where at least two nearby properties contain Heritage Agreements with similar management challenges. For sites that are not geographically close or require substantially different activities, separate individual applications are more appropriate.
Landholders who do not yet have a Heritage Agreement are not eligible for these grants. However, they may be eligible for separate incentive funding to establish a new Heritage Agreement.
