Queensland–Germany Bioeconomy Collaborative Science Program

  • Grant funding available (Queensland side): Up to $250,000 (excluding GST) over up to 3 years
  • Funding available (German side): Up to €500,000 under the German application process

 


The Queensland–Germany Bioeconomy Collaborative Science Program supports Queensland‑based universities and research organisations to undertake applied bioeconomy research projects with eligible German research partners. Projects must address defined bioeconomy target areas and deliver practical outcomes relevant to Queensland and Germany.

Key Requirements

  • Applicants must be a Queensland‑based university or research organisation with a registered ABN.
  • Applicants must work with an eligible lead German applicant under the German application process.
  • Projects must address one or more of the program’s target bioeconomy areas and be within scope.

 

What is eligible for funding?

Eligible projects include applied collaborative science and research in target areas such as:

  • Agriculture and agri‑food bioeconomy innovations and systems improvement
  • Bio‑based products and processes, including converting biological resources or wastes into value‑added products
  • Advancing knowledge and tools that underpin bioeconomy innovation (datasets, automation, AI, synthetic biology and related enabling approaches)

Not eligible:

  • Projects focused on human health or medical outcomes.

What companies are eligible for funding?

Eligible applicants must be a Queensland‑based university or research organisation with an ABN, working with an eligible German research organisation (and potentially industry partners)

Is this grant competitive or entitlement based?

Competitive. Your application will be assessed among other applications by a judging panel.

How can I increase my chances of winning this grant?

Competitive grants often require significant business case development and project analysis to support the application, this may include detailed presentations supporting the project’s merit, projected sales, cost-benefit analysis and more.

  • 3-5 year Cashflow Forecast
  • 3-5 year Balance Sheet Forecast
  • Cost-Benefit Analysis of Grant Funding
  • End-to-end grant application including information collating, analysis and application writing
  • CAPEX (Capital Expenditure) cost-benefit analysis
  • Stakeholder relations and Risk Mitigation Plans
  • Any other relevant forecasting that will support your application
