Total program funding: $7 million.
Delivery grant funding pool: up to $6.4 million over 2 years.
Scoping grants: up to $30,000 to support activities that identify the need for primary prevention programs and prepare for a Delivery grant application.
Delivery grants: up to $600,000 to design, deliver and evaluate community-led primary prevention initiatives.
In-kind or financial contributions: applicants must identify any contributions from the organisation or partners, where applicable.
Scoping activities are expected to run from 5 October 2026 to 31 December 2026.
Delivery activities are expected to run from 13 April 2027 to 12 April 2029.
Scoping grant applications close: August 14 2026.
Delivery grant applications close: February 8 2027

The Safe Futures Grants program supports community organisations to address the drivers of domestic, family and sexual violence across Queensland. The program funds community-led primary prevention initiatives that aim to shift harmful attitudes, behaviours and social conditions before violence occurs. It supports projects that are locally focused, intersectional, community-led and offered at no cost to the target population. Funding is available through Scoping grants and Delivery grants.

Scoping grants support smaller community-based organisations to undertake engagement, relationship building, research and capacity building activities. Delivery grants support eligible organisations to design, deliver and evaluate prevention initiatives with potential to create safer homes and communities. Priority is given to community-led projects, including those building on existing prevention and healing initiatives in regional, rural and remote Queensland.

Key Requirements

Support primary prevention: funded initiatives must focus on preventing domestic and family violence before it occurs by addressing underlying drivers, harmful social norms, attitudes and behaviours.
Be community focused and community-led: activities must be centred on the unique needs of local communities and actively involve the people, groups and communities impacted by the initiative.
Demonstrate an intersectional approach: projects should consider the intersection of drivers of violence, inequality and discrimination, including how these issues affect different communities and population groups.
Build partnerships and local capability: applicants are encouraged to work with relevant partners, including primary prevention experts, community stakeholders and organisations with local connections.
Include evaluation: funded initiatives must include evaluation activities to assess how the project is meeting its intended outcomes.
Be delivered in Queensland: funded initiatives must be delivered in Queensland and offered at no cost to the target population.
Address disclosures safely: applicants must demonstrate processes for responding to disclosures of violence, including how people will be supported to access appropriate help and responses

What is eligible for funding?

Community engagement, consultation and research to identify local needs and support primary prevention program design.
Relationship building and capacity building activities for Scoping grant applicants
Gathering data and information to support a Delivery grant application.
Contractor, consultant or project officer support for research, analysis or development of a Delivery grant application.
Professional development and organisational capability building, including grant writing, governance and leadership training.
Technical support for application development, accounting, community engagement and consultation.
Designing, delivering and evaluating community-led primary prevention initiatives.
Initiative-related expenditure and salaries for people directly involved in delivering the initiative.
External evaluation costs of up to 10 per cent of grant funding.

What companies are eligible for funding?

Incorporated not-for-profit organisations.
Incorporated associations.
Indigenous corporations.
Universities located in Queensland.
State-run entities, including schools and hospitals.
Queensland local government authorities.
Applicants must provide proof of relevant status, where applicable.
Joint applications are permitted, where a lead organisation that meets the eligibility criteria is nominated.
Companies or businesses can only apply if they are structured as an eligible not-for-profit or another eligible entity type. For-profit entities are not eligible.

Is this grant competitive or entitlement based?

Competitive. Your application will be assessed among other applications by a judging panel.

How can I increase my chances of winning this grant?
