The QLD Regional Tourism Infrastructure Fund Round 2 supports new and enhanced tourism infrastructure and experiences across regional Queensland. The program aims to address gaps in regional tourism infrastructure, strengthen Queensland’s visitor offering and deliver long-term economic benefits to regional communities. Funding supports projects that create or improve tourism attractions, accommodation and visitor experiences, increase visitor expenditure and numbers, encourage longer stays and improve visitor dispersal across Queensland’s regions.

Priority is given to projects that improve accessibility, align with regional tourism or local government plans, promote ecotourism and sustainable practices, demonstrate long-term financial viability and increase regional visitation. Supported projects must demonstrate economic benefits, be ready to commence construction within three months of funding approval and reach practical completion by 31 March 2028. The program has a total funding pool of $5 million, with grants of up to $300,000 excluding GST available per project.

Key Requirements

Develop or enhance regional tourism infrastructure: Projects must create new tourism infrastructure or enhance existing infrastructure and experiences in an eligible regional Queensland location.
Deliver regional economic benefits: Projects must demonstrate economic outcomes for the region, including tourism employment and flow-on benefits for sectors such as accommodation, retail, hospitality and transport.
Increase tourism demand: Projects should increase visitation, visitor expenditure, regional tourism capacity and the dispersal of visitors across Queensland’s regions.
Demonstrate strategic alignment: Projects must align with relevant Queensland tourism priorities and initiatives, Regional Tourism Organisation Destination Management Plans or relevant local government strategic plans.
Be construction-ready: Applicants must hold the relevant permits, approvals and detailed designs required to commence the project. Projects must be ready to commence construction within three months of funding approval.
Demonstrate deliverability: Applicants must provide a clear project plan, timeline, budget, risk management approach and evidence that the project can be delivered on time and within budget.
Support sustainable tourism: Priority may be given to projects that promote ecotourism, environmentally responsible tourism infrastructure and sustainable practices.
Demonstrate long-term viability: Projects should show a clear pathway to financial independence, ongoing operation and reduced reliance on public funding.
Improve accessibility: Priority may be given to infrastructure that improves access to tourism experiences and supports inclusive visitor participation.
Secure relevant support: Projects must have in-principle support from the relevant local government and Traditional Owners where required.

What is eligible for funding?

Construction and development of new tourism-related infrastructure or visitor experiences.
Construction of eligible semi-permanent tourism infrastructure.
Enhancement, refurbishment, refresh or expansion of existing tourism infrastructure.
Development of innovative or sustainable accommodation experiences, including eco-tents, tiny homes, glamping accommodation and eco-lodges.
Development of new tourism attractions and experiences.
Tourism experiences that celebrate Queensland’s Indigenous heritage.
Development of ecotourism or culinary experiences connected with Queensland’s agricultural landscapes, practices and produce.
Development of tourism experiences showcasing Queensland’s night sky.
Infrastructure that improves visitor accessibility, including pathways, ramps and signage.
Materials, labour and equipment directly associated with project construction.
Permanent fixtures and fittings that are integral to the project.
Production of final for-construction designs or equivalent.

What companies are eligible for funding?

Eligible applicant entities include:

Local Government Authorities.
Tourism operators and businesses.
Not-for-profit organisations.

Applicants must also:

Be an established tourism operator in Queensland that has operated for more than 12 months, or be a new operator or an operator from another Australian jurisdiction that can demonstrate active establishment of tourism operations in Queensland with significant benefits for Queensland tourism.
Hold a valid Australian Business Number.
Be registered for GST at the time of application.
Be located outside South-East Queensland.
Operate within an eligible regional Queensland Local Government Area.
Apply for a project that develops new or enhances existing tourism infrastructure or experiences in regional Queensland.
Hold all relevant permits and approvals at the time of application.
Have detailed designs required to commence the project.
Be ready to commence construction within three months of funding approval.
Have in-principle support from local government and Traditional Owners where required.
Be the legal owner of assets purchased or created using the funding.
Have established tenure arrangements and owner consent where applicable.
