QLD – Queensland–Germany Bioeconomy Collaborative Science Program

The Queensland–Germany Bioeconomy Collaborative Science Program is a Queensland Government initiative designed to create and strengthen collaborative research partnerships between Queensland‑based and German research organisations. The program supports joint science and research projects that address significant challenges relevant to the development of a sustainable bioeconomy.
Funding is provided to support collaborative projects that develop innovative products, technologies or processes within identified priority areas, including agriculture and agri‑food, bio‑based products and processes, and advancing biotechnological knowledge and tools. Projects are expected to demonstrate real economic, environmental and/or social benefits for Queensland and Germany.
Applicants must work with an eligible German research organisation and coordinate parallel applications to both Queensland and German funding bodies under their respective guidelines. Each jurisdiction assesses applications independently, and only projects approved by both governments will receive funding.
Key Requirements
- International research collaboration
Projects must demonstrate a genuine and coordinated collaboration between Queensland‑based and German research organisations, with clearly defined roles and shared objectives - Focus on priority bioeconomy areas Projects must address at least one identified priority area: agriculture and agri‑food, bio‑based products and processes, or advancing biotechnological knowledge and tools
- Practical and applied outcomes
Proposed research must lead to innovative products, technologies or processes with practical application and measurable benefits. - Coordinated bilateral applications
Queensland and German applicants must submit aligned applications to their respective funding bodies in accordance with jurisdiction‑specific guidelines

What companies are eligible for funding?
Eligible applicants include:
- Queensland‑based universities
- Queensland‑based research organisations with a registered ABN
Additional considerations:
- Applicants must partner with an eligible German research organisation
- Applications are limited to Queensland‑based entities
- Separate but coordinated applications must be submitted in both jurisdictions
Is this grant competitive or entitlement based?
Competitive. Your application will be assessed among other applications by a judging panel.
How can I increase my chances of winning this grant?
