Positive Action Community Grants 2026

Total funding pool: AU$200,000, excluding GST, divided among a number of organisations for the 2026 grants cycle.
Maximum funding per applicant: Grant requests may not exceed 25% of total annual organisational income.
Matched funding or in-kind contributions: Applicants must clearly identify in-kind, cash or voluntary contributions in the budget.
Applications close: August 11 2026.

The Positive Action Community Grants 2026 support community-based projects that address key issues affecting people living with HIV in Australia. The program funds initiatives that reach people most affected by, or at risk of, HIV, particularly marginalised, hard to reach or vulnerable communities. Priority areas include improving quality of life for people living with HIV, enhancing relationships between people living with HIV and healthcare professionals, improving HIV-related knowledge in priority populations, and improving health system responses to support long-term health outcomes. The program encourages innovative, sustainable projects that produce tangible outcomes and prioritises partnerships, collaborations and projects that can be replicated nationally or across jurisdictions.

Key Requirements

Improve quality of life for people living with HIV: Projects should address barriers such as stigma, discrimination, social support and resilience, with a focus on helping people living with HIV move from surviving to thriving.
Enhance relationships between people living with HIV and healthcare professionals: Projects may support improved health literacy, stronger communication with healthcare professionals and a better understanding of quality of life for people living with HIV.
Improve HIV-related knowledge in priority populations: Activities may focus on health promotion, testing, prevention and peer education for priority populations, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
Improve health system responses: Projects may support prevention, screening and management of comorbidities through person-centred approaches, including responses to ageing with HIV.
Demonstrate strong project design: Applications should show evidence of need, alignment with priority areas, defined project goals, planning, budget, timeline and outcomes.
Engage people living with HIV or at risk of HIV: Projects should actively involve people living with HIV or at risk of HIV across all stages of the project.

What is eligible for funding?

Community-based projects that support people most affected by, or at risk of, HIV.
Initiatives that improve quality of life for people living with HIV and address stigma, discrimination, social support and resilience.
Activities that improve communication, health literacy and relationships between people living with HIV and healthcare professionals.
Health promotion, testing, prevention and peer education activities for HIV priority populations.
Projects that improve health system responses to multimorbidity, ageing with HIV and long-term health outcomes for people living with HIV.
Innovative and sustainable initiatives that produce tangible outcomes for people living with HIV.
Partnership and collaboration-based projects, particularly those with potential for replication nationally or in other jurisdiction

What companies are eligible for funding?

Charities with a focus of more than 75% on HIV and people living with HIV.
Non-government organisations with a focus of more than 75% on HIV and people living with HIV.
Community-based organisations with a focus of more than 75% on HIV and people living with HIV.
Applicants must meet the legal requirements expected of a charity, non-government or community-based organisation in Australia.
People living with HIV must serve on the Board and be involved in the development and implementation of programs.
Applicants must actively engage, collaborate and advocate for people living with HIV

Is this grant competitive or entitlement based?

Competitive. Your application will be assessed among other applications by a judging panel.

How can I increase my chances of winning this grant?
