Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) – Premiere Fund
The MIFF Premiere Fund provides support through two funding pathways:
Scripts / Projects in Advanced Finance
- Up to $200,000
- Limited to 10% of the total project budget (whichever is lower)
- Support provided as equity investment or loan finance.
Fully or Partially Shot Projects
- Up to $95,000
- Available for completion or enhancement support
- Support provided as equity investment or loan finance.

The MIFF Premiere Fund co‑finances new Australian feature narrative and documentary films that will premiere at the Melbourne International Film Festival. The fund supports high‑quality theatrical projects that align with MIFF’s programming and audience, providing strategic minority finance to assist projects reach premiere and release readiness.
Key Requirements
Projects must be:
- Australian feature narrative or documentary films of at least 80 minutes intended for theatrical release.
- Capable of premiering at MIFF within the relevant funding round window.
- Submitted by an Australian citizen or permanent resident producer.
- Victorian-led or demonstrate a strong Victorian connection through key creatives or production activity.
Applicants must also:
- Provide evidence of marketplace support where available.
- Demonstrate project readiness including financing plans and production schedules.
- Hold or secure a completion bond (or receive an approved waiver).
- Hold or budget for Errors and Omissions insurance.
- Demonstrate meaningful Victorian expenditure.
What is eligible for funding?
Script Projects
Support for feature narrative and documentary projects in advanced development seeking production financing. Funding can assist projects moving toward production and marketplace attachment.
Fully or Partially Shot Projects
Support for completion and enhancement activities including post-production, finishing funds and other activities that help bring a project to premiere readiness.The fund supports:
- Australian feature films
- Feature documentaries
- Theatrical release projects
- Projects with a clear pathway to MIFF premiere screening
- Victorian-originated or Victorian-led projects
- Diverse creators and under-represented voices, including First Nations, CALD, regional, disabled and LGBTQIA+ creatives.
What companies are eligible for funding?
Eligible applicants include individual producers or organisations who:
- Are Australian citizens or permanent residents
- Are based in Victoria or lead projects driven by Victorian creatives
- Hold or can secure required distribution, insurance, and delivery arrangements
Is this grant competitive or entitlement based?
Targeted Competitive. Your application will be assessed among other applications by a judging panel.
