The TAAP Program gives individuals, councils and businesses up to $50,000 for the feasibility, environmental and planning studies needed to move new tourism accommodation or visitor attraction projects in Western Australia towards approval. It doesn't fund construction.

The program is run by Tourism Western Australia (Tourism WA). It aims to grow high-quality accommodation and attractions, increase visitor numbers, stays and spending, and encourage more visitors to travel into regional WA.

Key Requirements

Projects must deliver tourism accommodation or a visitor attraction in Western Australia. They must have the potential to drive visitation or improve the visitor experience, and show a clear point of difference and market appeal. Projects can be new developments or significant upgrades or repositioning of existing tourism assets.

Applicants must also show they:

  • have the financial means to build the project
  • have already spent resources progressing the project
  • own the land, or hold secure tenure, along with the legal rights, approvals and permissions to develop and operate the project

Projects in residential or rural residential zones, projects needing a local planning scheme amendment, and accommodation that will be strata titled aren’t eligible.

Tourism WA encourages applicants to discuss their project with its Tourism Experience Development team first. The TAAP Program guidelinesΒ explain eligibility and the evaluation process in full.

Tourism WA may consider other studies at its discretion.

What isn’t funded

Projects that are already finished or well under way, need ongoing government funding, or may not end up being used for tourism also aren’t eligible.
