The Multicultural Grants Program is administered by the Office of Multicultural Affairs within the Department of People, Sport and Culture, and reflects the Northern Territory Government's commitment to supporting multicultural communities and promoting cultural and linguistic diversity.

Two schemes are currently available. MGP Celebrate provides one-off funding to assist with organising, promoting and running cultural events, activities and festivals that promote social inclusion, cohesion and cultural and linguistic diversity. MGP Quick Response provides small-scale funding enabling organisations and community groups to respond to emerging opportunities by delivering cultural events and activities at short notice.

Both schemes support projects that assist the community's knowledge and appreciation of different cultures, foster opportunities for multicultural communities to maintain, develop and express their cultural and linguistic diversity, and are accessible and able to be attended by the broader Northern Territory community.

Key Requirements

Organisational requirements

  • Must be based in the Northern Territory
  • No outstanding final financial acquittal reports for any Northern Territory Government funding
  • Compliant with relevant governing legislation and regulatory bodies
  • No going concern issues that would affect delivery of the funded activity
  • No history of fraudulent activity
  • Any actual, perceived or potential conflicts of interest must be declared

Project requirements

  • Projects must be based in the Northern Territory
  • Activities must be consistent with the aim of the grants program
  • Projects must have identifiable outcomes and clear objectives
  • Projects must be completed by the end of the relevant financial year
  • Events and activities must be accessible to the broader Northern Territory community

Funding limits

  • MGP Celebrate: maximum of 2 grants per round, with a separate application and budget required for each event
  • MGP Quick Response: maximum of 2 grants per financial year
  • Grant funding will generally not cover the total cost of a project, so applicants are expected to contribute other funding, income or in-kind support
  • Wages and salaries will only be funded where significant community benefit can be demonstrated

Timing

  • MGP Quick Response applications should be lodged 4 to 6 weeks before the event start date

What companies are eligible for funding?

Eligible applicants are not-for-profit and/or charitable incorporated multicultural community organisations, not-for-profit and/or charitable incorporated multicultural community organisations in partnership with other organisations to deliver a project, not-for-profit unincorporated multicultural community organisations with an auspice organisation that has agreed to administer the grant, and other incorporated, not-for-profit and/or charitable organisations where the proposed project meets the grant aim and criteria.

Is this grant competitive or entitlement based?

Competitive. Your application will be assessed among other applications by a judging panel.
