Funding up to $50,000 is available per project across three funding categories:
- Category 1: Community and Culture Projects (Non-Capital) – up to $50,000
- Category 2: Aboriginal Leadership Development – up to $50,000
- Category 3: Community Safety Initiatives – up to $50,000

The Barkly Local Community Projects Fund supports community-identified projects in communities and Aboriginal homelands outside Tennant Creek. The fund aims to increase community participation in planning and leadership, improve liveability and amenity, and deliver social, cultural and community benefits across remote areas of the Barkly region.
Projects must clearly link to Community Plans or documented community priorities, evidenced through letters, Local Authority discussions, strategic plans or similar documentation.
Key Requirements
Applicants must be a legal entity with an ABN, be GST registered where required, and be financially viable. Applicants must not be bankrupt or non-compliant under the Workplace Gender Equality Act. Community groups that do not meet eligibility requirements may partner with an eligible organisation to apply.
Applications must demonstrate what the project will deliver, how it aligns with community priorities, how it meets the objectives of the relevant funding category, and include a project timeline, budget and quotes. Three quotes are required for assets over $5,000, along with a maintenance plan for any equipment or assets.

What is eligible for funding?
Funding is available across three categories:
Category 1: Community and Culture Projects (Non-Capital) – up to $50,000
Supports small projects that strengthen social, cultural and community outcomes, including equipment, tools, furnishings and signage; sporting, arts, music, cultural or placemaking activities; environmental works, clean-ups and shared space improvements; training plans and skills development; and community programs such as nutrition and wellbeing initiatives.
Category 2: Aboriginal Leadership Development – up to $50,000
Supports governance, leadership and decision-making capacity, including governance and leadership workshops, training programs for community members, and capacity-building activities for Aboriginal organisations.
Category 3: Community Safety Initiatives – up to $50,000
Supports projects that improve safety, wellbeing and community confidence, including community safety lighting and visibility improvements, safe gathering spaces and youth safety initiatives, community-led safety patrol training and planning, safety education programs such as road safety and emergency readiness, and equipment supporting safer community environments.

Eligible applicants must be a legal entity, including:
- Aboriginal Corporations registered with ORIC
- Incorporated associations
- Cooperatives
- Companies
- Organisations created under legislation
