The Music Australia Export Development Fund supports Australian contemporary music artists to build international careers through touring, showcase performances and global market development. The International Performance and Touring Activity stream provides matched funding to assist artists, groups and music businesses to undertake international performances and touring opportunities that expand audiences, strengthen global networks and increase export potential.

Key Requirements

Applications must support international export activity for Australian contemporary music artists and demonstrate a viable pathway to international audience and market development. Applicants must provide evidence of matched funding equal to at least the grant request and be able to demonstrate that the activity is confirmed and achievable within the required timeframe.

The fund is open to solo artists, bands, ensembles, producers, composers, songwriters and music businesses working in contemporary Australian music. Applicants must demonstrate export readiness and are encouraged to assess their preparedness through Music Australia’s recommended export readiness tools.

What is eligible for funding?

Eligible activities include:

  • Headline international tours
  • Support tours
  • Festival appearances
  • Biennale appearances
  • Commissioned performances
  • Official showcase performances combined with touring activity

Funding may also support:

  • Artist and creative worker fees
  • Artist management costs (up to 10% of total funding request)
  • Flights
  • Accommodation
  • Ground transport
  • Travel insurance
  • Visas
  • Freight and baggage costs
  • Childcare and access costs
  • Event registrations and ticketing costs
  • Environmental sustainability initiatives associated with touring
  • Accessibility initiatives for artists and audiences

  • Australian music artists
  • Composers
  • Songwriters
  • Producers
  • Bands and ensembles
  • Multiple artists touring together
  • Music businesses and organisations applying on behalf of artists

Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents and be practising contemporary music professionals.
