The Screenwest Scripted Production Fund provides grant finance to Western Australian resident producers and companies for eligible scripted screen projects made in Western Australia. Eligible projects include feature films and scripted series for broadcast, streaming or online platforms. Projects must show genuine marketplace support through current distributor, broadcaster or streaming platform interest and include a distribution plan covering Australian domestic and Rest of World sales.

Funding is structured as Base Funding plus Funding Incentives, with support of up to $700,000 per project. Applicants must also demonstrate Western Australian project elements and achieve at least 10 points under the Western Australian Elements Table.

Key Requirements

  • The applicant must be a Western Australian Resident Producer or Western Australian Resident Company and meet the general eligibility requirements set by Screenwest.
  • The project must be an eligible scripted screen production, specifically a feature film or a scripted series for traditional television broadcast, streaming or online platform.
  • The project must have current marketplace attachment, including a current letter of intent or deal memo from a bona fide distributor, broadcaster or streaming platform for theatrical release, television broadcast or online release with significant audience share. A distribution plan for Australian domestic and Rest of World sales is also required.
  • The project must score at least 10 points in the Western Australian Elements Table, which recognises Western Australian creative, production and content contributions such as producer, writer, director, location, underlying IP and selected heads of department.
  • Applications are assessed against core objectives including team track record, cultural and creative benefit to Western Australia, economic benefit including Qualifying Western Australian Expenditure and employment outcomes, commercial strength of market attachments, quality and feasibility, strategic alignment, diversity and availability of funds.
  • Productions receiving more than $100,000 in funding must budget for attachment or mentorship opportunities in consultation with Screenwest. Productions are also required to budget for a 2 percent administration fee capped at $10,000

What is eligible for funding?

  • Production of eligible feature films and scripted series to be made in Western Australia.
  • Engagement of eligible Western Australian creative and production personnel recognised through the Western Australian Elements Table and Funding Incentives categories.
  • Project elements that strengthen Western Australian content, authorship, setting, directing, heads of department participation, diversity outcomes and other outcomes aligned with Screenwest strategic priorities.
  • Attachment or mentorship opportunities for below the line crew capacity where production funding exceeds $100,000.

What companies are eligible for funding?

  • Western Australian Resident Producers.
  • Western Australian Resident Companies.
  • Applicants with eligible feature films or scripted series that will be made in Western Australia.
  • Applicants able to provide current marketplace attachments and a distribution plan for Australian domestic and Rest of World sales.
  • Applicants whose projects achieve a minimum of 10 points in the Western Australian Elements Table.
  • If a project has previously been declined for funding, the applicant must clearly demonstrate substantial changes
