The ACCO VET Program is a Tasmanian program administered by Skills Tasmania to support operational, capacity, and capability-building projects within Tasmanian Aboriginal community-controlled organisations that relate to the vocational education and training sector. Funding supports projects that build an ACCO’s ability to deliver VET, develop new or uplift existing services that support Aboriginal people who are engaged in, or planning to undertake, VET, and strengthen the Tasmanian ACCO skills and training sector, including partnerships with training organisations and work towards becoming an RTO.

The program can also support initiatives that address identified workforce and capability needs. Grants range from $2,000 to $200,000 from a total pool of $500,000. Projects must be completed and all grant funding spent by 30 September 2028.

Key Requirements

  • Build ACCO capacity and capability related to VET, including strengthening readiness to deliver training and related supports.
  • Develop new or uplift existing services that support Aboriginal people engaged in, or planning to undertake, VET, such as mentoring, transport assistance, and navigation support.
  • Support growth of the Tasmanian ACCO skills and training sector, including forming partnerships with RTOs and progressing towards becoming an RTO.
  • Address identified workforce and capability needs through projects aligned to the program aim.

What is eligible for funding?

  • Organisational planning activities, including governance activities and succession planning.
  • Developing partnerships with ACCO RTOs and other RTOs to support training activity.
  • Building the capacity and capability of the VET workforce through professional development.
  • Developing or upgrading training materials, tools, or resources, including using new technology.
  • Research and independent advice to inform future training activity and organisational growth.
  • Evaluating existing training and support resources and identifying improvements and gaps for Aboriginal people engaged in VET.
  • Support costs needed to make the project feasible, including certain project overheads, up to 15 percent of total project funding

What companies are eligible for funding?

  • Tasmanian-based Aboriginal community-controlled organisations that meet the ACCO definition referenced in the program material, including being incorporated and not-for-profit, controlled and operated by Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander people, connected to community, and governed by a majority Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander governing body.
  • Applicants must be able to provide a financial statement for the 2024–25 financial year.
  • Applicants must hold $20 million public liability insurance for each claim or related claims arising from a single occurrence.
  • Applicants must have appropriate provisions in place regarding the Child and Youth Safe Organisations Framework.
  • Partnerships are permitted, but the applicant must be the eligible ACCO and must lodge the application.

Is this grant competitive or entitlement based?
