The WA Animal Welfare Grant Program supports initiatives that improve the welfare of companion animals and wildlife across Western Australia. The program provides funding for not-for-profit activities that foster and rehome animals, rehabilitate injured or displaced wildlife, or deliver low-cost or free veterinary and animal health services to communities.
The program aims to promote responsible companion animal ownership, improve animal health outcomes, increase successful reunification and rehoming outcomes, strengthen foster care and rescue networks, and enhance wildlife rehabilitation practices. Funding may be used for services, systems, infrastructure or equipment that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of animal welfare activities.
Key Requirements
- Deliver measurable animal welfare benefits Projects must clearly demonstrate how they improve companion animal or wildlife welfare outcomes in Western Australia.
- Address service gaps or avoid duplication Proposals should identify unmet needs or inefficiencies in existing animal welfare service delivery.
- Demonstrate organisational capability Applicants must show they have appropriate governance, experience, and capacity to deliver the proposed activity.
- Provide value for money Applications are assessed on return on investment, efficiency of resource use, and overall benefit to the community.
What is eligible for funding?
- Free or low-cost veterinary services, including desexing, microchipping and animal health care, for disadvantaged Western Australians
- Services, systems, infrastructure or equipment that improve animal rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of companion animals in WA
- Services, systems, infrastructure or equipment that improve the rehabilitation of displaced or injured wildlife in WA
What companies are eligible for funding?
Eligible applicants must:
- Hold an Australian Business Number (ABN)
- Have an Australian bank account
- Deliver services in Western Australia
- Be responsible for delivering the project
- Demonstrate the project is not for profit
Eligible entity types include:
- Incorporated companies or associations
- Charities and not-for-profit organisations
- Individuals
- Partnerships or consortia
- Veterinary clinics, universities and local governments delivering low-cost or free services
- Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Corporations registered under the CATSI Act
- Publicly funded research organisations
- Western Australian local government bodies
Is this grant competitive or entitlement based?
Competitive. Your application will be assessed among other applications by a judging panel.
