QLD – Sport and Recreation Recovery Grant
- Applications open until 6 February 2026.
- Funding up to $1,000,000 is available.
- Minimum $20,000; per eligible project site
The Sport and Recreation Recovery Grant is a state-based, rolling disaster-recovery program jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA). It supports not‑for‑profit sport, active recreation and racing organisations—and, in specified circumstances, local governments—to clean up, repair or replace equipment and facilities directly damaged by eligible disaster events so clubs and communities can safely resume activities.
Key Requirements
- Direct disaster impact & purpose – The project must clean up, repair, restore or replace infrastructure or equipment directly damaged by an eligible disaster event, to re‑establish sport, active recreation or racing activities.
- LGA activation – The asset must be located in a QRA‑activated LGA for an eligible event listed for this round (see the program page’s Search LGAs table).
- Insurance position – Applicants must show no insurance coverage for the requested works, or that insurance limits are insufficient (and claims have been made).
- Tenure & authority to do works – Applicants must have legal right/tenure to undertake the works on the asset or facility.
- Evidence & quotes – Provide evidence of damage and at least two quotes or a QS estimate for any budget item ≥ $10,000, plus other documentation the department requests.
- Program objectives – Restore safe, resilient facilities; re‑enable community participation; and, where value for money is demonstrated, consider more resilient materials/techniques in restoration
What is eligible for funding?
- Assessment & investigation of event‑damaged assets (where damage is found).
- Repair/restore damaged sport, active recreation or racing infrastructure (fields, courts, lighting, amenities).
- Rebuild/replace irreparable infrastructure/assets (as evidenced by a qualified consultant).
- Eligible project costs such as design/project management, materials, plant/equipment hire and consumables; replacement of damaged equipment essential to re‑establish activities (e.g., canteen, office, timing systems), where not covered by insurance; using more resilient finishes/materials where value for money is demonstrated.
What companies are eligible for funding?
Eligible entities
- Local governments—where the community/recreational asset is in an activated LGA, directly impacted, ineligible under DRFA Category B, and has limited/no insurance.
- Incorporated not‑for‑profit sport, active recreation or racing organisations, or not‑for‑profit community organisations with those objectives; and sport/active recreation clubs incorporated within a Queensland university (with ABN). Must manage an asset directly damaged in an activated LGA, hold tenure, and meet other program obligations.
