The South Australian Government’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Grants – Projects program supports the creation, development, production, and presentation of new artistic work across all art forms. This grant aims to elevate the cultural, creative, and professional practices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, arts workers, groups, and arts and cultural organisations. It is designed to foster new creative opportunities, amplify cultural expression, and strengthen the visibility and impact of First Nations arts within South Australia and beyond.

Key Requirements

  • Support creation of new work – The grant supports creative development, production, and presentation of new work across all artforms, ensuring artists can explore, plan, and produce culturally significant projects.
  • Strengthen cultural practice – Projects must uphold and respect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural protocols and practices, ensuring culturally appropriate consultation where required.
  • Develop careers and professional pathways – The program encourages activities that enhance professional practice, expand networks, and create new opportunities for artists and arts workers.
  • Increase artistic visibility and engagement – Projects that offer presentation or touring opportunities locally, nationally, or internationally are supported to grow profiles and audience reach

 

What is eligible for funding?

Eligible activities include:

  • creative development,
  • research,
  • planning,
  • production or making of new work,
  • exhibitions,
  • touring (regional, national, international),
  • presentations, and performance opportunities.

Eligible expenses include

  • administration,
  • commissioning fees,
  • creative fees (performers, composers, designers, curators, producers),
  • technical personnel,
  • production costs,
  • travel,
  • living allowances,
  • marketing, materials,
  • studio/venue/equipment hire, freight, curatorial collateral, catalogue design and printing,
  • documentation (photography, videography)
  • exhibition costs.

What companies are eligible for funding?

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individual artists
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander groups
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts and cultural organisations
  • Non‑Aboriginal–led organisations that support First Nations artists and can demonstrate appropriate consultation and cultural protocols
  • Funded arts organisations including small-to-medium, major organisations, and statutory bodies
  • Arts and cultural organisations and Aboriginal arts centres may auspice applications on behalf of individual artists

 

Is this grant competitive or entitlement based?

Competitive. Your application will be assessed among other applications by a judging panel.

How can I increase my chances of winning this grant?
