The Housing Innovation Fund Grant is a competitive program aimed at increasing Western Australia’s housing supply by supporting industry-led adoption and commercialisation of modern methods of construction (MMC). These methods include prefabrication, modular systems and automation, all designed to transform the way homes are built. The program’s objectives are to drive innovation and enable business transformation, strengthen WA’s advanced housing manufacturing capability, and accelerate the uptake of MMC to reduce costs, shorten build times and improve sustainability.

Key Requirements

Expected outcomes include a significant increase in housing supply and affordability, enhanced local manufacturing and supply chain resilience, improved environmental sustainability and energy efficiency, and faster, more cost-effective housing delivery across the state.

  • Project must:
    • Relate to WA residential housing design, manufacture, or delivery.
    • Align with MMC priority areas.
    • Commence within 60 days of signing the Financial Assistance Agreement.
    • Be completed within 24 months.
  • Provide matched funding (minimum 50% of total project cost).
  • Provide a detailed business plan and supporting evidence

What is eligible for funding?

Projects must focus on adopting or commercialising MMC within WA’s residential housing sector, including:

  • Offsite pre-manufacturing methods: volumetric modular systems, panelised housing, prefabricated structural components, 3D printed concrete panels, bathroom pods, kitchen modules.
  • Onsite construction innovations: alternative methods (e.g., Insulated Concrete Forms, hempcrete), robotics, automated site processes.
  • Process improvements: digital design tools, lean construction systems. Eligible costs include technology acquisition, equipment, design and engineering, feasibility studies, and implementation activities directly related to MMC adoption.

What companies are eligible for funding?

  • WA-based business operating for at least 12 months in residential construction, manufacturing, or related sector.
  • Legal entity with ABN/ACN, GST registered, solvent, and financially capable.
  • No outstanding ATO debts or unpaid superannuation.

Is this grant competitive or entitlement based?

Competitive. Your application will be assessed among other applications by a judging panel.
