WA New Industries and Innovation Fund – Commercialisation Bridge Grant

  • Grants ranging from $50,000 to $250,000 are on offer. Recipients are required to provide a net cash co-contribution of either 25% or 35% of the project costs, depending on the tier that they are under.
  • Total allocated funding: $40 million over four years (2025–2029) under the New Industries and Innovation Fund (NIIF)

The Commercialisation Bridge Grant (CBG) is a competitive Western Australian Government initiative designed to assist innovation-driven small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) and startups. Administered by the Department of Energy and Economic Diversification, the grant aims to bridge the funding gap between early-stage commercialisation and significant growth, supporting businesses in becoming sustainable, profitable, and scalable.

Key Requirements

  • Must be a WA-based SME or startup with an Australian Business Number (ABN) or Australian Company Number (ACN).
  • At least three years of operation.
  • Demonstrated commercialisation of innovation and early customer revenue.
  • Potential for scalable growth.
  • Commitment to conducting activities within Western Australia.
  • Applicants must provide a net cash co-contribution of either 25% or 35% of the project costs, depending on the tier that they are under.

What is eligible for funding?

Eligible expenditure includes:

  • Product Readiness: Laboratory verification, necessary certification, software development, machining and tooling, product testing and validation.
  • Team Readiness: Hiring experienced C-suite personnel, adding to the team to fill skill and experience gaps, developing an advisory board.
  • IP Readiness: Protection of intellectual property through patents and other safeguards in various countries, legal and professional advice, licensing.
  • Commercialisation Readiness: Innovation management and consulting services, commercialisation, growth, and marketing efforts, preparing to enter new markets, export readiness.

What companies are eligible for funding?

  • Based in Western Australia.
  • Hold a current ABN/ACN.
  • Operational for at least three years.
  • Developed a commercial innovation.
  • Generated some early customer revenues.
  • Not yet achieved breakthrough growth but has the potential to do so.
  • Scalable and innovative project with a focus on development within WA.
  • Commitment to remaining in WA for at least the next three years.
  • Solvent and capable of contributing at least 25% of the requested project funding costs.

Is this grant competitive or entitlement based?

Competitive. Your application will be assessed among other applications by a judging panel.

How can I increase my chances of winning this grant?
