As part of the Tasmanian Government’s Tasmanian Defence Industry Strategy 2029, the program offers $100,000 in funding for 2025 and another $100,000 in 2026. It provides up to 50% co-funding for businesses engaging external consultancy services to develop submissions for defence procurement opportunities.

Grant Tiers

  • Tier 1: For procurement values between $3 million and $10 million – maximum grant of $15,000.
  • Tier 2: For procurement values over $10 million – maximum grant of $30,000.

What is eligible for funding?

The program reimburses up to 50% of approved project costs, with a maximum of $15,000 for Tier 1 projects and $30,000 for Tier 2 projects. Funding cannot be applied retrospectively.

Eligible expenditure includes:

  • Engaging consultants to assist in preparing a submission for an Approach to Market in defence procurement.
  • Engaging consultants for third-party testing of products or services to ensure they meet Approach to Market requirements.
  • Engaging consultants for a third-party review of submissions to confirm compliance and suitability.
  • (Tier 2 only): Internal procurement project management wages and salaries—up to 25% of the grant value, if appropriately justified in the application and acquittal.

What companies are eligible for funding?

To qualify for financial assistance under the program, applicants must:

  • Be a Tasmanian-based advanced manufacturing enterprise, advanced technology enterprise, or an industry group supporting these sectors within the defence industry.
  • Hold an Australian Business Number (ABN) and be registered for GST.
  • Not receive more than $30,000 per financial year under this program unless a strategic project demonstrates significant industry and state benefits.
  • Have an annual turnover between $500,000 and $55 million (indicative).
  • Not be a consultant or intermediary.
  • Not be subject to any legal disability, including bankruptcy or liquidation.
