Sustainability VIC – Materials (paper/cardboard, plastic & glass) grants
Sustainability Victoria has launched funding for infrastructure projects (i.e. new infrastructure or upgrades) that increases capacity and capability of Victoria’s resource recovery centre.
Depending on the material that is being recycled, i.e. paper/cardboard, plastics or glass, funding may be anywhere from $3M-$8M per project.
Key Requirements
- Project must be implemented and serviced in Victoria
- Project must demonstrate increased materials recovery and local reprocessing of paper and cardboard, glass and plastics or increase use of recovered materials in remanufacturing
- Project must not already be completed and cannot have already commenced infrastructure construction, however infrastructure equipment may be purchased prior to signing a funding agreement
- 1:3 co-contribution funding i.e. for every $1 of funding, the project must co-contribute at least $3
- Submit EOI by Friday, May 8th 2020 at 3pm.
- Have a commissioned and operational project by March 30th, 2024
What is eligible for funding?
Funding is available for infrastructure projects (new infrastructure or upgrades) that:
• increase the capacity and capability of Victoria’s resource recovery sector and/or
• improve the quality of available materials for reprocessing and remanufacturing
Grants will be provided for infrastructure projects focused on reprocessing, remanufacturing and end-market capacity for mixed paper and cardboard, plastics and glass.
Infrastructure projects may include:
• infrastructure and equipment for new facilities, upgrades or expansions to support greater sorting and decontamination of recovered priority materials: paper and cardboard, plastic and glass
• infrastructure and equipment for new facilities, upgrades and expansion to enable reprocessing of materials to a higher quality suitable for manufacturers and end-markets
• infrastructure and equipment for the remanufacturing of recovered priority materials into new products
The extent of funding will depend on the recycling material:
Paper and cardboard
Projects that support the construction of processing and remanufacturing facilities for recovered paper and cardboard in Victoria.
Funding is available for up to 25% of total project capital cost, capped at $8 million per project.
Plastics
To support projects that increase Victoria’s capacity to process plastics.
Funding is available for up to 25% of total project capital cost, capped at $3 million per project.
Glass
To support projects that increase the recovery and reuse of glass.
Funding is available for up to 25% of total project capital cost, capped at $3 million per project.
What companies are eligible for funding?
- Have a current Australian Business Number (ABN)
- Project must be implemented and serviced in Victoria
Is this grant competitive or entitlement based?
Competitive. Applications will be assessed by a panel, who will then shortlist preferred projects and invite them to submit a full application and a business case. From there funding will be allocated based on which projects have the most merit for funding.
How can I increase my chances of winning this grant?
