As you would be aware, the process for applying for export assistance under the program changed recently, whereby we were required to apply in advance with a proposed budget and grant request for activities covering FY22+ period.
On the plus side, this change in process meant that businesses would have confidence of eligibility and a guaranteed grant amount, however conversely, because applicants had to ask for funding upfront, there was the largest number of companies applying to the program in its history. Whether those businesses will subsequently spend and be reimbursed their grant is yet to be seen but what this has done, is impact the value of the grant being offered.
There is a fixed annual budget for the EMDG and accordingly to take into account the number of applicants requesting funding, the program has been significantly impacted.
Estimated grant amounts
The final grant amounts will be calculated after all applications have been assessed.
Given this level of demand and funding, we estimate applicants could expect to receive up to the following grant amounts in these tiers:
Representative bodies could receive up to $90,000 per financial year as there were fewer applications in this tier.
