Future Health Research and Innovation Fund – Mental Health Translational Research Grants

Maximum funding: $600,000 (excluding GST) per project

The Mental Health Translational Research Grants 2026 program provides targeted support for Western Australian researchers to accelerate implementation of evidence‑based mental health interventions and policies. The program focuses on improving mental health outcomes, supporting workforce capability and strengthening the WA mental health research sector through translational research that can be embedded into policy and practice.

Key Requirements

Research must align with the Mental Health and Alcohol and Other Drugs Strategy 2026–2031.

Projects must support implementation of evidence‑based models that improve mental health and wellbeing or prevent mental illness.

Applicants must work collaboratively with consumers, community services and/or specialised or acute health services.

Projects should build capacity and capability within the WA mental health workforce.

Consumer involvement must be embedded throughout the project lifecycle.

What is eligible for funding?

Eligible projects include:

Translational mental health research supporting implementation of evidence‑based models.
Research supporting prevention of mental illness.
Projects enhancing mental health workforce capability and contemporary evidence‑based care.
Research involving partnerships between researchers, community services, health services and consumers.

Eligible expenditure may include:

Team member salary costs (excluding the Activity Lead except in exceptional approved circumstances).
Pre‑approved equipment and specialised research resources.
Consumer engagement activities and participation.
Evaluation and implementation activities.

Is this grant competitive or entitlement based?

Competitive. Your application will be assessed among other applications by a judging panel.

How can I increase my chances of winning this grant?
